CFIA Solemn statement on EU antidumping against Chinese fasteners

Solemn Statement 

Ignoring opposition and appeal from Chinese fastener enterprises, European Union anti-dumping committee voted on 3rd, Dec to adopt import duties of up to 87 percent on screws and bolts from China (14 vote “yes”, 12 vote “no” and 1 abstained whole Chinese fastener industry, China Fastener Industry Association (as “CIFIA”) expresses its strong indignation and resolute opposition toward this decision.

Since the antidumping case was initiated in Nov, 2007.  CIFIA and all relevant exporters made prompt reactions and expressed their opposition attitudes towards all parties concerned from Europe through various means. In the meanwhile, CFIA and all the relevant exporters also did cooperatively with EU in the investigations over all concerned enterprises, steel enterprises and markets and defended EU antidumping with a large amount of data and evidence. Jiaxing fastener import and export enterprise delegation also held a press conference in Brussels on 24, Nov, 2008. During this conference, obvious evidences shown that there was no material injury caused on EU fastener industry. Instead, bilateral trade was just playing a complementary role in the two side fastener industries.

However, EU insists to impose high tariffs on fastener products from China without any consideration of facts that have been found. EU cares about its own interests while ignores common mutual interests between EU and China. EU is always taking no responsibilities and is always holding prejudices. EU has imposed high tariffs on Chinese fasteners and obviously shows their partiality to those European enterprises in China. It is obviously unfair. We should admit that EU abuses WTO rules and applies for double standards on this case.

We once again appeal to EU to respect the fact and establish mutual-trust, mutual -benefit and win-win development environment; we appeal to EU to solve this problem on the basis of justice, fair and reasonable concepts by means of strengthening mutual communication and coordination. If European parties persist in its own ideas as ever, they will severely damage not only Chinese fastener industry, but also all European manufacturers, sales retailers and consumers.
