The Establishment of Fastener Antidumping Case Would Hurt the Benefits of EU countries

Recent years, most of the fastener manufacturers of western countries have already given up the production of low class products, thus mainly handling high grade products or trade. But these countries still have large demands for the cheap lower-class fasteners. Once the antidumping case established, it will not only hurt Chinese enterprises, but also the EU countries.

Feng Jinyao, chairman of the Fastener Association of CGMCIA,(China General Machine Components Industry Association), stresses in a telephone interview that in the last few years, the domestic fastener industry welcomed great  development opportunities along with China's fast steadily economy development, developed country's economic resurgence and the transfer of manufacturing industry etc.. Recent years, most of the fastener manufacturers of western countries have already given up the production of low class products, and they mainly produce high grade fasteners or just handling trade business. But they still have large demand for the cheap lower-class fasteners from China. At the same time, they export expensive high-quality fasteners to China. In fact, Chinese fastener manufactories do not threat the EU parties. It is only an issue of division of labor. It completely conforms to the tendency of global industrial structural adjustment and the world manufacturing transfer. China and EU feature a mutual benefit and all-win economic relationship. He also presents an example, Italy has a demand of fasteners approximately 1.49 billion dollars in 2006, but China exports 88 million dollars to the country, only taking 5.9% of its total demand, with such a low rate, it is impossible to impact or damage its industry.

He thinks that it is the powerful demand of oversea market that has swiftly driven the development of Chinese fasteners export. In 2006, China produces fasteners 4.6 million tons, 2.07 million tons of it for exports, which have aroused some oversea manufacturers' unnecessary panic. So they adopt unfair attitudes towards Chinese products, some even take trade protections. He stresses that along with the grow of foreign trade, trading friction among countries also increase correspondingly; it is quite normal. We can solve the problems through equal, friendly dialogue and consultation. Randomly taking antidumping measures, it is not sensible and also we can not accept.

He also points out that we treat European fastener investors building factories in China with equal and fair attitude; we also hope they can respond with the same attitude.

The statement of the Fastener Association of CGMCIA points out that the antidumping investigation against China " contribute little to the development of harmonious bilateral economic and trade relation that features mutual benefit and all-win ". "China will defend its legal rights as a WTO member. The National Fastener Association of China and the Electromechanical Chamber of Import and Export strongly support Chinese fastener enterprises to adopt firm measures to positively respond the investigation according to relevant law. At the same time, we also hope to strengthen bilateral communication and cooperation, thus enhancing mutual understanding, promoting the healthy development of Sino-EU fastener trade relations."
