Steel exports to be curbed
THE government is planning to impose more restrictions on export of steel, reports said.
The curbs would include restricting steel projects in the processing sector and restricting the licenses of export companies. The country also plans to reduce its steel production to avoid overcapacity. The country's steel product exports were down 9.4 percent in August at 5.38 million tons. However, in the first eight months, steel and steel billets exports surged 83.8 percent and 10.9 percent to 45.08 million tons and 5.61 million tons, respectively.
Nation to produce 8.5m autos in 2007
CHINA'S auto production saw an annual growth rate of 45.8 percent since 2002 and the country is expected to produce 8.5 million units of automobiles in 2007, a senior official with the top economic planner said at a forum Saturday.
By the end of 2006, output value of the country's auto industry accounted for 3.7 percent of China's GDP, said Zhang Guobao, vice minister of the National Development and Reform Commission.
Pharma sector output to touch $80b
THE output value of China's pharmaceutical industry will grow faster at an annual rate of 17.8-18.5 percent to top 600 billion yuan (US$79.8 billion) in 2007, Yan Jiangying, a spokesperson for the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) said in Tianjin last week, quoting a forecast of its research institute.
In the first half of this year, China's pharmaceutical industry recorded gross industrial output value of 291.32 billion yuan, up 21.31 percent year on year, and the growth was 1.29 percentage points higher than that of the year-earlier period.
