According to data from British merchandise statistics institute, world S/S output is expected to increase 8.6% in 2008, more than half of which are from China.

In 2007, China S/S output comes to 7.5 million tons, while exports and production facilities are till under further expansion. For example, annual output of Hebei Tangshan Iron and Steel amounts to 0.6 million tons, while Shanxi Taigang Stainless Steel Co., Ltd, Zhangjiagang Pohang Stainless Steel Co. Ltd. (ZPSS) and Lianzhong ( Guangzhou ) Stainless Steel Corporation ( LISCO ) are expanding production facilities and capacity.

Stainless steel market in Western European begins to recover with strong market stock and demand by the end of 2007.European steel companies have full orders in January and February and the orders are increasing in March. The base price of roll steel in Germany increases by 7.1% in December, 2007.
Due to weak demand for stainless steel, the actual increase rate of S/S output is lower than the expected value in January, 2008 in Japan and America. America¡¯s S/S output decreases 14 points in November, 2007. Despite distributors and end users in North America and Asia can not improve the weak demand rapidly, S/S output is still expected to increase by 4 points to 5 points.

In addition, China's increase of stainless steel products does not mean increasing demand for nickel as non-nickel products and nickel alloy are also gradually increasing.
