According to Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA), Indian stainless steel imports from China will double to 250,000 tons in this year.

The country’s stainless steel imports from China totaled some 130,000 tons in 2013, said the association.

India’s consumption for stainless steel is expected to top around 5.46 million tons by 2023 as current demand is around 2.4 million tons.

Stainless steel mills in the domestic market have a total annual capacity of 5 million tons, but they are operating at less than 50%.
