Powers Fasteners Sues Metallics, Avanti for Patent Infringement on Wall Dog Anchor

Powers Fasteners, Inc., Brewster, NY, has filed suit against Metallics Inc. and Avanti Screw Inc. for patent infringement on the Powers Wall Dog® anchor, according to an announcement by Powers President Jeffrey Reid Powers.

Mr. Powers said the suit was filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York for infringement of Powers?? U.S. Patent No. 7,040,850, and added that Powers has requested both a trial by jury and permanent injunction with damages from the court for Metallics?? Silver Claw fasteners.

Mr. Powers added that, ??Powers Fasteners values greatly its intellectual property and intends to take all steps necessary to protect it from infringement.??

The Powers Wall Dog anchor ?C the first one-piece fastener for anchoring into wallboard -- is covered by two U.S. patents, including U.S. patent No. 7,040,850 and related patents overseas. Introduced in 2004, it features high profile, deep penetrating threads and leaves a much smaller hole when removed than toggles or other two-piece anchors. Wall Dog anchors are installed into wallboard or wood by simply fastening with a Phillips-head screwdriver, and typical applications include lightweight fixtures, mirrors, picture frames, bathroom accessories, shelving, drapery supports and electrical, telephone and cable accessories. Wall Dog anchors also can be used in concrete and can be found at many leading home centers.
