The total output of South Korea’s fasteners was 820,000 tons in the value of 2.8 billion dollars in 2011. Automobile industry, construction industry, and electronics industry were the three largest consumer groups of fasteners, commanding 630,000 tons (76.3%), 70,000 tons (9.1%) and 20,000 tons respectively, and the rest 100,000 tons went into other industry.
The import value of fasteners came to 440 million dollars in 2011, up 13.5% in comparison with 2010 (2010: 380 million dollars). The fasteners imported from mainland China, USA, Germany, and Japan were 160 million dollars, 105 million dollars, 33 million dollars, and 37 million dollars, respectively, with such fasteners shipped from mainland China taking the highest share of 36.2%.
The export value of fasteners reached 480 million dollars in 2011, sharply jumped by 50.1% while compared with 2010 (2010: 320 million dollars). It is easy to find a trade surplus of 50 million dollars.
