Brazil to reduce import tax on thick hot rolled carbon steel plate

Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade announced this Wednesday that the import tax for thick carbon steel plate is reduced to 2% from previous 12%.

According to the Resolution No.93 and No.94 of Brazil’s Foreign Trade Chamber (CAMEX), this new import tax will last for 180 days with a limit of up to 122,000 tons.

Hot rolled carbon steel plates with thickness ranging from 21mm to 30mm, width ranging from 1,495mm to 1,860mm and length ranging from 12,250mm to 12,500mm, with additional requirements to meet the tests of resistance against acid corrosion are benefited by this new tax rate.

This kind of product is intended for manufacturer of carbon steel pipes of submerged arc longitudinal welding pipes, which are mainly for marine application.
