On April 22, the opening ceremony of China International Fastener & Hardware Center, the biggest fastener expo sourcing center, was held in Haiyan. It is said that the project was invested by Ganglong Group with total investment of RMB1.1 billlion. Many representatives of fastener associations and companies attended this activity, such as Lao Xihua, president of GuangDong Province Fastener Association, Edward Tsui, president of Hongkong Screw & Fasteners Council, Morgan Chen, CEO of Morgan Group and Chinese American Representative of National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Cai Yonglong, president of Gem-year Group, etc. Cai Zhiyuan, president of Ganglong Group, says the first phase of the project, a 130,000 square-meter fastener products exchange area, will be in operation by June 2008. Material market exchange program is expected to be finished in next year. He also anticipates that the overall market will have been ready by 2010, with a strong capacity of over 2200 companies. The China International Fastener & Hardware Center will effectively integrate industrial resources in Yangtze Delta, even the whole China. Furthermore, it will drive the rapid development of related industrial chains. Many fastener entrepreneurs in Ningbo express that Chinese International Fastener & Hardware Center will become a great display and exchange platform for Ningbo fastener companies. A large number of customers show great interest in the center. More than 500 customers have signed agreement with China International Fastener & Hardware Center. The first China (Haiyan) Fastener Technology & Foreign Trade Conference was held on the same day. The conference lasted for 2 days and closed on April 22, 4:30pm. A rough estimate says over 500 orders were finalized. The foreign business volume reached RMB300 million and the domestic business volume was about RMB800 million. Haiyan companies account for over 80% of the total deal. The first China (Haiyan) Fastener Technology & Foreign Trade Conference 2007, organized by Haiyan County Government, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (Zhejiang Branch) and Jiaxing Association of Fasteners Import & Export, is one of the activities of 2007 China Haiyan South-North Lake Tourism Festival. The conference included topic lecture, international fastener sourcing trend, customer requirement analysis, new technologies, new products, product display and discussion. Over 4000 fastener entrepreneurs from Hongkong, Guangdong, Wenzhou, Ningbo, Yongnian and 82 foreign fastener buyers from Spain, US, Italy, Finland, India took part in the conference and visited 100 fastener companies in Haiyan County. During the conference, 325 exhibitors and customers were having sufficient information communications and discussions.

Exhibit space sales for the 27th Annual National Industrial Fastener Show/East, May 22-23 in Atlanta, Georgia is up 16% over last year's event and the number of advance registrations is 15% ahead of 2006, reports Show Management. We have 219 booths and 203 companies compared to 188 booths and 174 companies in Columbus last year and there is still over a month yet to go before show time. Exhibit sales activity continues and we will probably grow to 225 or more booths by Show time, says Susan A. Hurley, CEM, Show Manager. The early registration count includes 174 distributors, 49 manufacturers, 28 sales reps, 14 importers and a variety of others. In recent years, supported by local government, Yongnian fastener industry has spent 878 million yuan in building of a group of fastener leading enterprises. It is also learned that Yongnian has three big professional markets: Two distribution centers (one is a new building while the other is an old one) and a hardware and fastener center. Besides, there is a 5-kilometer-corridor for fastener production and sale including 2000 distribution stores. 300 of them are established by well-known fastener enterprises from Ningbo, Shanghai, Changshu, Wenzhou, Shenyang, Shandong, etc. Meanwhile, 100,000 Yongnian people have opened 40,000 fastener distribution stores in China cities.

     It is reported that European Industrial Fasteners Institute is planning to submit an application to European Commission to initiate anti dumping investigation on China origin carbon steel fasteners. EU is likely to accept the application and place a case on file for this investigation in September. If accepted, it will be the second AD investigation on China origin fasteners as EU levied AD duty on stainless steel fasteners from China in 2005. The European Industrial Fasteners Institute represents producers of bolts, nuts, screws, rivets and other industrial fasteners of both ferrous and non ferrous metals in EU countries.

Newly developed Standard 543 from IFI, the Industrial Fasteners Institute (Cleveland), provides a test method for determining the torque-tension relationship on internally and externally threaded fasteners to measure frictional characteristics.    Until recently, cadmium, zinc, and phosphate were the standard corrosion-inhibiting industrial coatings for fasteners. New coating families have become available, and it has been difficult to establish torque-tension values for these coatings. The new standard issued by IFI will provide a means of obtaining the necessary data for fasteners with these coatings.     Standard IFI 543 specifies the test materials (including screws, nuts and washers), test equipment, (torque and load measuring devices, data collection device, and drive tool), test procedure, and data analysis necessary to conform to the standard. Copies of the standard, priced at $10 apiece, can be obtained from IFI.

National Industrial Fastener Show/East     National Industrial Fastener Show/East, which sponsored by American Fastener Journal and B&A, and endorsed by Los Angles Association, Mid-Atlanta Fastener Distributors Association, National Fastener Distributors Association, New England Fastener Distributors Association, North Coast Fastener Association, Western Association of Fastener Distributors, International Fastener Machinery & Suppliers Association Southwest Fastener Association, Southeastern Fastener Association, is only held two days.
