2011 Five Region Fastener Association Conference was held successfully at Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business (Kbiz) Grand Hall, Seoul, South Korea, on Sep. 26th, 2011. Mr. Thompson T.H.Chang, Vice president of Taiwan Industrial Fastener Institute, introduced the general situation of Taiwan's Fastener Industry.

With the recovery of global economic since 2010, Taiwan’s fastener export is also in the course of recovery. In 2010, Taiwan’s fastener export had gotten rid of the haze caused by financial crisis,   fastener export had returned to the level of above 1.2 million tons. The export volume and value reached 1.28 million tons and USD $ 3.2 billion, up 42.93% and 55.29% respectively.

Taiwan fastener industry has been devoted to upgrade products and decentralize market in recent years, now it achieves a small accomplishment. As far as the most major export market of USA, fasteners exported to USA was 693,000 tons taking up 54.8% of the whole export volume in 2005 while fasteners exported to USA decreased to 498,000 tons only taking up 39.8% of the whole export volume in 2010. The proportion even dropped to 36.6% in the first half of 2011.

Fasteners exported to European Union and Southeast Asia performs very well, especially in Germany, whose export share grows from 5.3% in 2005 to 9.6% in the first half of 2011.

Though some industrial supply chain in global was interrupted by Japanese earthquake, the demand for fasteners in Asia area like mainland China and India is still going strong and the global manufacture industry maintains in the amplification level, Taiwan’s fastener industry will move forward and have a bright future.
