China Knowledge reported that Wuhan Iron and Steel Corp one of the leading iron and steel makers in China will receive 6 million tonnes of ore from its overseas mining equity accounting for 25% of its total ore demand.

The steel maker could achieve self-sufficiency of iron ore after five years. 162,000 tons of iron ore concentrate, which came from the mine that is jointly developed by WISCO and Canada's Consolidated Thompson Iron Mines Ltd, arrived in Wuhan on Sep. 18.

The company plans to have production capacity of more than 60 million tons in the period from 2011 to 2015 and the gap between the supply and demand of iron ore will increase to more than 90 million tonnes.

The Chinese steel maker has developed 37 projects overseas via joint ventures, including 15 iron ore projects, 12 trade and deep-processing projects, nine coal mine projects and one steel production project.
