Arabian steel producers to urge government to raise import duties

It is reported that the Arabian steel producers and participants in Middle East from countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, Algeria and Bahrain have got together in UAE lately to discuss the threat of Chinese cheap steel imports into this region with very low prices to harm the local steel industry and steel markets.

The concerned steel imports are from rebar to flat steel products and they claimed that Chinese prices are less than the international and local prices, which have hammered the local production volume, profits and the large investments in current and future steel industry projects.

They also urged local governments in concerned countries to raise the customs duties to discourage the imports from China like the other countries do in USA, Canada, EU and other countries who all have set higher duties and taxes on Chinese steel imports.
