S.Korea's imported car sale grows 7.5 pct in November

South Korea's imported car sale grew in single digits last month due to solid demand for German luxury brands, industry data showed Thursday.

The number of foreign luxury vehicles sold here was 27,436 in November, up 7.5 percent from the same month of last year, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA).

Demand remained robust for German luxury models. Mercedes-Benz ranked first in terms of car sale, selling 7,186 vehicles in October. It was up 6.0 percent from a year earlier.

German automaker BMW came in second by selling 5,551 vehicles in October, up 18.7 percent from a year ago.

It was followed by German carmaker Audi with 2,906 cars sold here, Volkswagen with 2,677 vehicles and Volvo with 1,267 units respectively.

The number of European brands sold here was 22,182 in October, up 15.0 percent from a year earlier. The reading for U.S. vehicles tumbled 15.7 percent, with the figure for Japanese models skidding 15.7 percent.

For the first 11 months of this year, the number of imported vehicles sold here came in at 243,440, up 13.4 percent compared to the same period of last year. Enditem
