Chinese Crude Steel Takes 36% of Global Output Last Year

World crude steel output reaches 1,343.5 million metric tons for the year 2007. China ranks the top with steel production reaching 489 million metric tons, taking 36.4% of global output.
The statistical data released by International Iron & steel Institute (IISI) on 23th shows that the production of crude steel in the 67 major producing countries and regions reaches 1,343.5 million metric tons in 2007, an increase of 7.5% over last year. China's steel production reaches 489 million metric tons, taking 36.4% of global output, an increase of 15.7% on 2006.
It's known that total crude steel production in EU (27) figures 210.3 mmt, a 1.7% growth over 2006.North American is 132.1 mmt, a 0.4% increase on 2006 figures. CIS countries increase 3.4% with 124 mmt; South American output is 48.3 mmt, an increase of 6.5%.
It's also known that the top five steel producing countries remained China (489.0 mmt), Japan (120.2 mmt), the US (97.2 mmt), Russian (72.2 mmt) and India (53.1 mmt).
Chinese crude steel output not only takes the first rank, but also more that the summation of the second to the 8th, taking 36.4% of global output, an increase number year by year, with33.8% in 2006, 31% in 2005 , 26.2% in 2004.
