Indonesia to Levy 68% AD Duty on Import Cold-Rolled Steels

On December 28, 2012, Indonesia anti-dumping (AD) committee issued survey results, affirming that the imported cold rolled steel plates/coils from China, Japan, South Korea, Chinese Taiwan and Vietnam had dumping behavior and brought serious damage to local steel industry.

Therefore, the committee submitted applications to Indonesia trade ministry, advising to levy the anti-dumping duties from 10% to 68.4%, the anti-dumping duty on China being the highest, Japan from 27.6% to 68.4%.

If the application is approved, Indonesian commerce ministry will carry out the levy. The final ruling will be issued during late March-early April.

But the Japan Steel and Iron Federation expressed their strong protest, claiming that 70% and 5% of their exports to Indonesia respectively belong to automotive and electric/electronic applications, and most of them are tax-free as per the agreement with Indonesia; other 25% are the high-end and hot galvanized products which cannot be produced locally.

If the Indonesian commerce ministry finally decides to levy the anti-dumping duties, it will greatly affect local manufacturing industry; therefore, Japan asks Indonesia to listen to relevant interested parties.
